November 1972 saw the inaugural meeting of THE
On 11 November 1973 the first Annual General Meeting took place along with a Fun Rally and from then on Fun Rallies and Matchdays became part of the Pyrenean scene.
Founder Members of the Club were Life Members Lynlie and Rick Watson along with Karen Harrison and another Founder Member was Anne Godfrey.
Between them, they did much for the Breed. Trying to educate owners, Judges etc, rescuing and rehousing discarded and unwanted Pyreneans, ensuring that new owners who showed their Pyreneans were urged to present their dogs in an immaculate condition and all the other things that go hand in hand when little is known about a Breed except by a dedicated few.
1973: December 9. A match was held - Pyreneans and Bulldogs versus the Pugs. Pyrs and Bullies won on points and Best Dog of the Day and Best Adult was Watson's Ch Briarghyll Excelsior (Imp UK).
1974: November 10. The second AGM of the PMDC was held in conjunction with a Film Show of Pyreneans in the
1975: February 22. Pyreneans collected for the IHC.
May 17. A Match Meeting - Pyreneans and Bernese versus
August 31. Match Meeting - Pyreneans, Bernese and Chows versus the Great Danes.
September 20/21. A weekend of activities was held in Tauranga in conjunction with the Tauranga Championship Show. A Committee Meeting, barbecue and Pyrenean Rally were held, the winning Rosette being donated by Mr and Mrs Fielden, Judges and Breeders of the Briarghyll Kennels in
November 29/30 Weekend in Opunake. The third AGM was held at the New
1976: The fourth AGM was held at Gordonton
1977: A Matchday, Pyreneans and Bernese versus Dalmatians was held at Gordonton. The Match was won by the Pyrs and Bernese. Puppy of the day was Ordesa Marie owned by Mr Ken Hope. The fifth AGM was also held at Gordonton.
1978: This year the sixth AGM was held at Katikati in November.

A second Ribbon Parade was held, judged by Mr Freddie Bartley. Best on Parade was Bucklands Rhapsody (Imp UK), owned by Mr Ken Hope and Reserve on Parade was Ordesa Sir Beejay owned by Mark and Kerry Nicholls. There were sixteen Pyreneans entered.
1981: On 5 December the ninth AGM was held at Taupo.
1982: A Ribbon Parade was not held until February 1982 where there was a large entry of Pyreneans for the Taupo Show. Judge was Mr Clyde Rodgers of

The newsletter is sent to all financial members every eight to ten weeks with members contributions most welcome.
We have trophies to compete for each year at the National Dog Show and for points gained at shows during the year. Pyreneans are winning "Groups" and "In Show" at all levels in the Show ring which is an asset for the breed to gain recognition at that level.
Our thanks must go to those who paved the way for us in 1972, who dealt with problems as they arose and who have given guidance to others. Also to all the people who have held various roles within the Club through the years and who have contributed so much. We hope you are proud of us.
Several successful Ribbon parades and matches have been held from 1995 to 2004 with some being more well attended than others. Application was made in 1997 to upgrade our status with NZKC to hold an Open Show which was much appreciated by our show fraternity. The following year the status was again upgraded and the Inaugural Championship Show was held. This is now an annual event. The Pyrenean featured in a NZKC Gazette Breed Supplement for the second time in December of 1997 and then again in 2005
