The Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club in New Zealand is affiliated to the New Zealand Kennel Club. Its aims are to promote the breed in New Zealand and worldwide, give support to members, increase awareness of the breed, provide rescue services when required and provide a social network for its members by way of its newsletter Pyrhaps; Ribbon Parades and Match days when numbers permit. The PMDC also supports the Battle of the Giants held annually in the Taupo area.
In 1997 the club held its first Open show followed in 1998 by the first Championship show
